While that’s the end of the Basement Birds tour they’ve still got a few more shows left. Including Coaster Festival and Spring in the Valley. So if you missed the tour, head along to those gigs!

In other still-important news, Josh Pyke’s Busking for Change charity gig takes place THIS FRIDAY at the Annandale in Sydney. Tickets and VIP tickets have SOLD OUT, so if you’re lucky enough to have secured yourself a ticket, i’ll see you there! If you can’t make it, why not donate some money?

Did someone say merch sale? July 29th, 2010 by sabi

In the words of those carpet stores that close down a couple of times a year, “Everything must go!”

The lovely folk at JP HQ sent me an email to let me know about the Josh Pyke Merch Sale, deets below. So what are you waiting for? Get buying!!

JOSH PYKE MERCH FIRE SALE
With Josh Pyke off the road for the moment, we thought we’d take the opportunity to clear out the warehouse and sell off some great old merch for sale at ridiculously low prices!

We figured $10 for t-shirts and $15 for hoodies, with FREE POSTAGE Australia-wide, was a pretty sweet deal.

All of these items are no longer in production, so this will be your last chance to grab this remaindered stock!

And if you hurry, the first 50 orders will receive a signed Josh Pyke poster absolutely free with your order.

Check it all out at http://www.joshpykefiresale.com

In other news… The Basement Birds Street Teams still seem to be happening, with flyers having been received by team leaders.  So if you want to help out, get in touch with the street teams. Since the last update an Adelaide Street Team has appeared, and for those in Adelaide who haven’t got your tickets yet, get em here.  A congratulations is in order as the Basement Birds album debuted at #12 on the National ARIA Physical & Digital combined charts, and #1 on the AIR 100% Indie Charts this week.

Anddd don’t forget, tickets are still available for Josh Pyke’s Busking for Change at the Annadale Hotel on August 27th.

Basement Birds Update July 23rd, 2010 by sabi

In this post I bring you a Basement Birds update.

Firstly, two venues have changed Sydney show is now at Metro and Adelaide is now at Fowlers. Dates are the same. The tour kicks off next month and tickets are still available for all shows I believe, unsure if any have sold out yet.

The album was released the other week (available at JB Hi-Fi) and the new single “Not The One” has a video clip.  There’s also a video of Basement Birds covering “All I Want” by Sarah Blasko at the APRA awards, click here to view it. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the album, so email us at friendsofjoshpyke@gmail.com or send us a tweet @friendsofjp.

Sooo, over the past few days there’s been talk about Basement Birds Street Teams. Unfortunately attempts to gain more information haven’t worked….

Instead I’ll give you a quick rundown as to what Street Teams do, and if you’d like to be apart of it, click the links below.

Street teams according to Sabi:
Essentially street teams consist of fans keen to help promote a particular artist or band. Promotion is often varied depending on one’s imagination; common tasks are poster runs, handing out flyers and also online promotion. (via social networking sites and emails) In this case, the aim is to encourage everyone, and anyone to become a Basement Birds fan and come along to the shows, making it a sold out tour!

And here are the sites that have already popped up:

FACEBOOK GROUPS:
Perth Basement Birds Street Team
Melbourne Basement Birds Street Team
Brissie Basement Birds Street Team
Basement Birds Sydney Street Team
(not sure if there’s an others around yet…)

That’s it for now folks. Don’t forget to buy your tickets to Busking for Change, and why not click attending on the Facebook event page?

Busking For Change 2010 July 10th, 2010 by sabi

Not only do I admire Josh Pyke’s music, but also his efforts to contribute to society. We often talk about doing things, but not always do we follow through. Josh has earnt my respect and I’m pleased to inform you that Busking For Change is back for its second year.

You may remember us bringing you the announcement last July, as well as photos from the gig. Now, here’s the announcement for Busking for Change 2010.  And here’s the promo video.

Busking for change is a Charity Event started by Josh Pyke, with the first event held last year raising over $11,600 for the ‘Indigenous Literacy Project’ (ILP). The ILP is a partnership between The Australian Book Industry and The Fred Hollows Foundation and aims to help raise urgently needed funds to address the literacy crisis in remote Indigenous communities.

This year Josh is back with a stellar lineup featuring Holly Throsby, Boy and Bear and a DJ set, to raise more greatly needed funds for the ILP. Busking for change will be held on the 27th of August at the Annandale Hotel. (update: Triple J’s The Doctor will be MCing)

By Year 7 schooling, only one in five indigenous children from remote communities can read and write at the accepted minimum standard. This is a massive problem, which can be quantifiably changed by the programs run by the Indigenous Literacy Project. The one thing I can do is put on a charity show to help support the people financially who are out there making the difference, hence Busking For Change,” says Josh.

“To me, a decent level of literacy is really the cornerstone to being able to choose what type of life you want. If you can read and write and communicate with words, your world is opened up to further education, different creative pursuits, or just the escapism of reading a really good book at the end of a hard day at work. Being literate helps you put yourself in the context of the greater world that you live in.”

Be sure to get in quick, as tickets sold out very quick last year. This is your chance to see Josh and special guests in a small intimate setting. Tickets on sale soon from http://www.buskingforchange.com with a few different options for people who want to support the cause:
