Friends! We’re excited to share the news that Busking for Change returns this September.

This incredible event raises money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. If you happen to be in Sydney this September we highly recommend attending. Josh has invited Urthboy to join him this year and it all takes place at The Roller Den in Sydney on Thursday September 4th. You can buy tickets here.

If you can’t attend, might we suggest donating to the ILF? Keep an eye on the Busking for Change website on details about donating.

Until next time,

The Music and Josh Pyke Present Busking for Change 2014

Busking for Change, a charity event founded by Josh Pyke in 2009, will be returning this September with all profits going towards the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).

The ILF was set up by members of The Australian Book Industry with a vision to raise urgently needed funds to address the literacy crisis in remote Indigenous communities.

The event will be held at The Roller Den in Sydney on Thursday September 4, with tickets selling at just $30.

“I’ve been an ambassador for the ILF for about five-years now,” says Pyke.

“The reasons I got involved are the same reasons that I stay involved. I believe Indigenous Australians should have access to the same opportunities that any Australian does, and I believe that having good literacy levels can be a starting point in opening those doors.”

Joining Pyke onstage this year will be friend and fellow musician Urthboy, whose last three records were nominated for the Australian Music Prize, with album Spitshine taking out Best Independent Hip Hop/Urban Album at the 2010 AIR Awards. The artist is also known as the frontman of popular hip-hop group, The Herd, who have been nominated for a number of industry awards since their formation on 2001.

The two have collaborated previously for charity, recording an original hip hop track, ‘Someone Else’s House’, earlier in the year to raise funds for kids in foster care through Life Without Barriers and the CREATE Foundation.

Over the past five-years, Pyke has helped raise over $43,000 for ILF through Busking for Change event.

“The ILF is offering free books and literacy awareness with the support of communities and are asking nothing in return; that’s something I’m very proud to be part of,” says Pyke.

“When I started Busking for Change I wanted to reach a goal of raising $50,000 for the ILF. This year I think we will reach that goal and I hope you’ll be there to help!”

With the $50,000 goal within close range, this year’s event is sure to be a very special occasion!
