Josh Pyke Announces 5th Album

Friends, the moment we’ve eagerly been awaiting has finally arrived. Josh Pyke’s fifth studio album “But For All These Shrinking Hearts” will be released on July 31st.

Here’s what Josh had to say in his newsletter:

People often ask if I make a decision at some point to “sit down and write another record”.

I don’t. I never have. All my life I have just written songs. If I wasn’t lucky enough for this to be my job, you can bet I’d be filling up my spare time, tinkering away at songs, and playing them to anyone who would listen.

Looking back, it seems bizarre to think that there are almost 100 of these little creations of mine out there in the world, travelling around, making appearances at weddings and funerals, in tattoos and at cafes in countries I’ve never even been to. They’ve become part of people’s lives; people I’ll never meet but am somehow connected to.

But for All These Shrinking Hearts is a line taken from a random snippet of lyrics, or maybe a poem, that I started and never completed.

The full verse read like this:

To me,
You were a shadow,
Held aloft,
In a world
Less vast
But for all these shrinking hearts

But for All These Shrinking Hearts is the best of me.

It’s a reflection of all the things I have thought, felt and dealt with, and wanted to fix or change, or have needed to hold close and keep the same.

I’m extremely proud of this record. The Beginning and the End of Everything really did feel like an album that closed one door and opened the next.

Shrinking Hearts feels like the world through that open door: frightening, beautiful, familiar and brand new.

I truly hope you like it. I truly hope it becomes some small part of your lives, at least for a little while.

Thank you all so much as always for enabling me to be able to do this for a living. I appreciate it more and more as each year passes!
